Despite all of the advances in recording technology during the past century, a jazz performance captured in the studio has a different dynamic than one in a nightclub before a live audience. Granted there are the rare in-studio audiences that have made it onto recording dates, but generally the studio performance is about polish, perfection, and posterity. In the live setting, it's about creativity fueled by the excitement that enthusiastic onlookers can provide. In this hour we will visit four clubs and listen to four performances that are live, long, and will bring you the edge of your seat.
